British citizens come under the list of visa-exempt countries who are eligible to apply for an eTA
(Electronic Travel Authorization) for Canada. If you hold a valid British passport than the
application process for eTA is straightforward. Firstly you will need to visit the website to
complete the online application, with your passport details and also have a valid debit or credit
card to make the application fee payment.
Completing the eTA online form should take no more than 10 minutes and you should get confirmation
shortly after you have submitted it. You are recommended to apply for eTA at least 1 week before you
are due to fly, just in case there are any delays with the processing of the application.
The eTA form has a number of sections that you must complete, covering your personal details,
passport details and a set of eligibility questions that will be used to assess whether your
application will be approved.
You should take care to fill the application in without making any mistakes as errors may lead to
you needing to send another eTA application and make the payment a second time.
Once you have completed all of the necessary information, you will be directed to the payment
page and you will then need to use a valid debit or credit card to pay for the application. Once the
payment is successfully completed, you should receive email notification that your application has
been submitted, including a unique reference number that you can use to track the progress of your
application.
