When you submit your eTA application, you must make an electronic payment for the application fee.
Before you start your application you should ensure that you have a strong internet connection to
avoid any connectivity issues that could cause your application to not get submitted or for the
payment to not go through. You should also check your bank card to make sure that it is still valid.
It is also important to check the acceptable forms of payment which are:
- Visa, Mastercard, American Express,
- a pre-funded Visa, Mastercard or American Express
- Visa Debit, or Debit Mastercard
- UnionPay, JCB Card or Interac
If there are issues with your payment for your Canadian eTA then it could be due to it being an
unacceptable type of payment, or it could be that there is an issue with processing the payment due
to bank issues, or insufficient funds. If this is the case then you will need to resubmit your
application once the issue is resolved.
Rarely, the problem could be to do with the eTA processing website going down but you should see a
website error message if this is the case.
Once your payment has been successfully processed you should receive a confirmation email shortly
afterwards to confirm that your application has been submitted and therefore your payment has been
successful.
